This project is a promotional illustration series created for Equality Australia, titled Visible Together. Through visual language, the work responds to issues of identity diversity and visibility faced by LGBTQIA+ communities within public discourse.
The series adopts illustration as its primary medium, integrating visual metaphors and cultural symbolism to articulate the core concept of the project. Anthropomorphic swans are employed as the central motif, with each swan drawing inspiration from iconic queer figures across different historical periods. Through this metaphor, the work explores how LGBTQIA+ identities are expressed and perceived within varying cultural and historical contexts. The overall visual style combines the flamboyance and theatricality of camp aesthetics with the emotional depth of narrative illustration, creating an atmosphere that is simultaneously performative, tender, and inclusive.
Through this body of work, I aim for viewers to sense the ongoing process of self-construction experienced by queer individuals within a pluralistic society, and to recognize that “visibility” is not merely the act of being seen, but a continual pursuit of understanding and social recognition. Like swans dancing through the night, each individual continues to perform on their own stage, voicing their truth whether observed or unseen.
